Welcome to Hunters Lane High School
Learning, leading, succeeding at the Lane!
School Hours Time Change for 2008-09 This year, Hunters Lane school hours will be from 7:05 am-2:05 pm. Students, please adjust your morning routine so you can be present on time.
Much work has been done this summer to prepare for a great 2008-09 school year. Here is a "snapshot" of the work that has been done so far.
We now have an “attendance” office that will handle all student sign in and sign outs to keep adults from having to go to principals’ offices to get students. The office has existed, but there is a new door that allows access to this office without having to go through the main office. This should help increase building security, be more convenient for parents, and be faster for all.
There will be a closed circuit camera and buzzer at the front door. At 7:20 am everyday all doors will be locked and anyone entering the building will have to be buzzed in. This is another security improvement.
Hunters Lane has been selected to pilot the LobbyGuard Badging system:
- If you have been to the Central Office or a state office building recently, you may have used a self-service badging station to print your visitor’s badge. You stand before a camera, insert your drivers license, press a few buttons, and a badge is printed with your name, photo, time and date, barcode and destination. When you are ready to leave, you scan the barcode to sign-out. This security improvement will allow for increased security and better record keeping of all visitors to our school.
Overhead LCD projects are being installed in all classrooms.
At least one computer lab has been added (with the hope more will be completed before teachers return) that will be manned by a full time teacher for the purpose of using a computer based program to remediate skill deficiencies related to Gateway objectives.
Congratulations 2008 IB graduates! Congratulations to Brittany Faircloth, Josh Fillis, and James Jones, who earned an International Baccalaureate [IB] Diploma. They were among 27 Hunters Lane students who graduated in May as IB Diploma Candidates. All 27 students will attend four-year colleges this fall. Since 2004, when 11 Hunters Lane students became the first group in the state of Tennessee to graduate as IB Diploma Candidates, 14 out of 79 students have earned the full IB Diploma.
Welcome to our new principal! Hunters Lane is pleased to welcome our new executive principal, Susan Kessler. Dr. Kessler has eight years of experience as a high school administrator and has spent the past five years as an assistant principal at Hillsboro. She is eager to meet all of the members of the Hunters Lane community and is thrilled to be a warrior! Great Expectations for 2008-09

The Hunters Lane staff has spent the summer working hard to prepare for 2008-09 to make it our best year yet! Teachers have been working on a wide variety of topics to continue to meet the needs of our students. We have developed project teams of individuals who are gathering to develop strategies designed to accomplish the following:
- Develop student advisory program for 9th-12th graders
- Reduce student disciplinary referrals which impact graduation rate and success in Gateway courses
- Increase student and faculty morale
- Organize student orientation
- Mentoring of teachers new to Hunters Lane
- Coordinate a leadership retreat for department heads
In addition, teachers are working on specific subject area curriculum, topics, and projects designed to increase student learning as evidenced by student achievement.
Parents, we need you! If you are interested in serving on one of our project teams, please e-mail Dr. Kessler at susan.kessler@mnps.org.
Our mission is to “provide learning opportunities in a safe environment, ensuring the success of students in our technology-driven world.” To ensure the success of our ninth graders we instituted a 9th Grade Academy with an advisor/advisee program last year. For older students, we have the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program, and the Marketing and Business Academy. Over the next two years, we will increase the opportunities for students to participate in additional Small Learning Communities (SLC) after the ninth grade. Please explore our web site for more information about Hunters Lane High School, a school moving in a positive direction.
